I creep silently into Nii-sama's
bedroom, praying that the floorboards won't betray me by creaking. My brother
is completely hidden underneath the covers. He's not cold,
he just finds the warmth of the blankets comforting. I can relate. I stand beside the bed and pull the covers
back so that his face is revealed. I watch for a moment while he sleeps, his breath light and even. As the sky outside his window begins to
brighten, my eyes flick to the bedside clock. It's already Time to go. I swoop down and lay a chaste kiss on my
secret beloved. I stroke his cheek gently and lightly, brushing a strand of chesnut-colored hair out of his face. "It never would have worked between
us, anyway..." I whisper softly into the silence. I lean back up and
take one last look at him...and then I walk away. Out of the room, out of the house, out of
his life. Goodbye, Nii-sama. I love you. |
