"If they give you lined paper, write the other way". - William Carlos Williams My penname is and has been for many years Amphitrite, but I'm also known in the fanfiction world as Amphitrite II on FanFiction.Net and maybe aesthetica_not on LiveJournal. I became addicted to fanfiction the moment I first encountered it waaaay back in 1999. Slash is one of my most favorite things in the entire world. I'm the kind of person who will spend an entire day indulging in a gorgeous and entrancing slash novella and whose bad day can instantly change into a fantastic one upon finding out that one of her favorite WIPs was updated. Call me weird all you want, but fanfiction--discovering it, reading it, writing it--makes me happy. I started writing (atrocious) original Mary-Sue stuff since I was seven. About princesses. And magic. And pretty girls with pretty clothes. Maybe I liked my pretty girls a little too much. 0:) First fandom? Digimon. Of course, it was hethethet back then. (Especially the dirty chan stuff. Damn, I was such a perverted kid.) And then I stumbled upon this delicious Kaiser/Daisuke bondage fic. Eh...heh. That was beyond intriguing. Epiphany! Enter slash into Amph's dirty mind! Still, back then, fluff and WAFF made me all squirmy and uncomfortable. Keep in mind, I was only nine and for some reason still in that "eww, boys and romance are so icky" phase. So for some reason, the dirty, steamy stuff was okay in my illogical nine-year-old mind. I wrote some (and even drew some. ...Heh), but it was mostly just jotting down tiny excerpts of certain ideas that bloomed in my head. Fandoms flickered a bit, ranging from things like Pokemon to Sailor Moon to Artemis Fowl to...Powerpuff Girls smut. Not a word, you. And then came Harry Potter. No het, het was bad. Het smut was hot. But het was baaad. I was still only eleven, so anything fluffy was still made me all squeamish. (I was an odd kid.) Actually, during this time, I quite liked gen fics. SO STRANGE, because nowadays I won't pick up a genfic unless it's really interesting. (I was in love with time traveling at this point... MWPP era fics were the best.) So finally there was a fandom I could really write in, even though most of what I wrote was aforementioned Mary-Sue crap. Actually, my plot ideas were pretty ingenious back then (well, for an eleven year old, at least!) I still have some copies of the beginnings of a few of my stories, and if I had the heart to, I could edit them and make them so much better. But I'm too lazy. Anyway. Something happened with my FF.net account: everything screwed up and got lost. It was all very saddening (especially now I wish I still had copies of those stories). Then I went back to flickering between fandoms and just reading instead of writing. Then I hit gold. Yu-Gi-Oh! Yaoi and yuri heaven. At this point, I hated het. Het ANYTHING made me angry. Don't ask. It was all part of this crazy anti-homophobia rampage I went on. I wrote a ton of things: some are so shameful I cringe whilst reading, but some are actually pretty deep, if not put in words as well as I'd like. I stayed loyal to that fandom for a long while. Made a lot of friends, received tons of reviews, felt very loved. It was my passion. Then the uncut DVDs stopped coming out. And everything just kind of...halted. My favourite authors paused all their works. The world came to an end. ...Okay, no, but it almost felt like it. After that horrible hiatus, I picked up the Harry Potter fandom again and felt terribly ashamed of myself because I'd started reading HP/DM again, and I had promised myself not to fall in the clutches of T3H EVIL CONVENTIONAL PAIRINGS. I don't know why. But goddamn, I could not resist the cuteness of it all. Obviously, by this time, I had quenched my aversion to fluff and had...fallen in love with it. For a long time afterwards, I remained loyal to the HP slash fandom. Reading all the classics, going through everyone's lists of recs, getting hooked RPGs... It was great. I did usually stray for a while after seeing certain movies, but HP was still my main thing. Then came my Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and Cars crazes, which were very, very prolific. I'm still very proud of what came out of that period of my life. Then, I went back to being a major Yu-Gi-Oh! fangirl for a few years, going back to my beloved Darkshipping pairing. After I finished watching the series (subbed, of course), I stayed active in the fandom for a while before I became overwhelmed by RL problems and only read/wrote fanfic very lightly. Thank god that period is over, because now I'm back to being a crazy fangirl. Nowadays, my main fandom is the DC Comics/Animated Universe, but I read from a bunch of fandoms simultaneously, including but not limited to Harry Potter, Brokeback Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Yu-Gi-Oh, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Digimon, Ranma 1/2, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and The Chronicles of Narnia. To be honest, I don't think I have a true OTP, in the sense of one pairing that I like above all others. I do have certain pairings from each of my fandoms that I call my "OTPs", though. These include: Harry/Draco and Lupin/Snape from Harry Potter, Ennis/Jack from Brokeback, Jack/Will from Pirates, Yami Bakura/Yami Yuugi and Kaiba/Jounouchi from Yu-Gi-Oh!, Charlie/Mike from Chocolate Factory, Daisuke/Ken from Digimon, Zack/Cody from The Suite Life, Peter/Edmund from Narnia, Doc/Lightning and The King/Chick from Cars, and Batman/Superman and Superboy/Robin III from DC Comics.
